Term Limits-Broken Promises

LoBiondo's failed to keep his very first promise to the voters of 2nd district.  Perhaps "term limits" was the trick that turned the tide in his favor in 1994- a pledge to serve no more then 12 years.  It reeks to high heaven in retrospect- Bill Gormley smelled a skunk in 1994 and called it for what it was, a "STUNT"
Reminder: Now serving his 8th term or 16 years, LoBiondo continues to run again for a 9th term after claiming he would not serve beyong 12 years and that Congressmen Bill Hughes lost touch with "the real world"  in 1992.  Hughes retired in 1994.

Assemblyman Frank LoBiondo has challenged Sen. William Gormley to another campaign pledge this week as the Republican primary for Congress grinds on. This time, LoBiondo pledged to support term limits for congressmembers as a way of reforming Congress.   "I support term limits. I voted for term limits as an assemblyman. I believe that term limits are essential to reforming Congress and making members of Congress accountable," he said.   LoBiondo said he would not serve beyond 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and would support legislation making that limit law. The assemblyman said too many congressmen lose touch with "the real world."

Gormley again dismissed LoBiondo 's pledge as campaign rhetoric

LoBiondo and Gormley (I know which was which, do you?)  The White House.... Congress...it's all the same.  The Best Man, 1964, Henry Fonda and Cliff Robertson.

1992 A Look Back....

ELECTION '92 / LOBIONDO PRESENTS PLANS FOR SHAKEUP OF CONGRESS

Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ) - Friday, September 18, 1992
Author: KATHLEEN CANNON Staff Writer
Congressional candidate Frank A. LoBiondo wants to "clean out the House" from the basement elevator on up to the friendly skies.

.....LoBiondo criticized Hughes for changing his mind about term limitations. The incumbent supported limiting members terms early in his 18-year tenure, but later switched sides to oppose them.

"It's amazing how the Congressman got so much wiser when he got to Washington," the Republican said sarcastically.

....
Hughes questioned why LoBiondo did not call for campaign finance reform in his 10-point plan. And he also asked whether the Republican addressed methods to reform the political process in the state Legislature.

"What has he done to reform the mess in Trenton?" he asked.
